Disney Wait Times

It’s been a while since we posted Disney news here, and for good reason. At BlogMickey, we work to bring you the latest news so you can make the best decisions when it comes to your Disney vacation. We’ve written about the Backlot Tour closing, the Sorcerer’s Hat being removed, Anna and Elsa FastPass+ testing, Seven Dwarfs Mine Train on-ride video, and construction updates. Our latest project has been the most exciting.

In an effort to greater assist you when visiting the parks, we created DisneyWaitTimes.com and the WDW Wait Times app for Android. So what makes us different compared to other wait time apps? We give you the actual wait times in addition to the posted wait times that you’ll find in the parks and on the My Disney Experience app.

Imagine that you’ve been waiting to ride the Seven Dwarfs Mine Train for months. Unfortunately you weren’t able to get a FastPass+ so you have to wait in line. No problem, you’ve waited months already, what’s another 90 minutes? You get in line and to your surprise you actually get on the ride in 60 minutes, a full 30 minutes quicker than what you were expecting! You leave feeling good that you have an extra 30 minutes to go ride Dumbo, Barnstormer, and Under The Sea. That is a form of wait time manipulation to meet and exceed guest expectations.

The next day you find yourself at Hollywood Studios during Frozen Summer Fun. You already waited 90 minutes for Toy Story Midway Mania earlier in the day, but your kids loved it and have been begging you to ride it again. It’s nearing the time for fireworks, but you decide to try and sneak one more ride in before the end of the night. You walk back to Pixar Place to see the wait time posted at 90 minutes again, but you don’t see the line extending outside like earlier in the day, so you decide to give it a try. To your surprise, the line starts next to Mr. Potato Head! You end up getting on the ride in less than 15 minutes and leave happy, but confused as to why the wait time was posted so high. The answer is crowd control. During the Frozen Summer Fun fireworks, Disney closed down the Pixar Place area due to ashes fallout. They posted the wait at 90 minutes so the guests using the My Disney Experience app would be discouraged from going to Pixar Place and they could clear the area quicker.

That brings us to DisneyWaitTimes.com. With DisneyWaitTimes.com and the WDW Wait Times Android app we bring you the actual time it will take you to wait in line. I experienced both of the examples listed above and decided to look into what could be done to help the average guest maximize their time in the parks. Equipped with actual wait times, you’ll be able to make informed decisions as to whether you should ride Big Thunder Mountain or Splash Mountain. You’ll be able to see that actual wait times drop during parades and fireworks. You’ll walk past the other families wondering if Pirates of the Caribbean is really a 45 minute wait.
