Magic Kingdom photo update (1/14/16)

We made it out to the Magic Kingdom yesterday morning to take a look around and see what’s new.

The monorails are operating on a modified schedule through March 20th. Here’s the schedule:

    Express Monorail
Closed between 11:30am and 6pm Wednesday and Thursdays
9:30am delayed opening on Mondays and Tuesdays
    Resort Monorail
8:30am delayed opening on Mondays and Tuesdays
    Epcot Monorail
9am delayed opening on Mondays and Tuesdays

Security has been beefed up around Walt Disney World. This sign is in front of all the parks.

Random checks and metal detectors are a part of your Walt Disney World vacation now. Recent news suggests Disney is looking to hire Cast Members to take over for the third party company currently doing the screenings.

The holiday decorations have finally been removed from Main Street USA.

The Car Barn was open, so we took a quick peek inside.

The new Skipper Canteen is now open for business, but no Advanced Dining Reservations, walk-ups only.

The former entrance to the Adventureland Terrace is a mostly unused space. Looks very bland.

The Jingle Cruise season has run its course and normal jungle cruising has returned.

    MagicKingdomPhotoUpdate_01142016-12 MagicKingdomPhotoUpdate_01142016-10

With the holiday season over, it seems to be tour group season.

    MagicKingdomPhotoUpdate_01142016-11

Pirates seems to be at the back of peoples minds at rope drop, or it’s down (it seems to do that a lot in spite of the recent refurbishment).

Splash Mountain is currently undergoing it’s annual refurb. With highs in the low 60’s, I can’t imagine there would be a ton of demand, save for name recognition, anyways. The main drop is dry right now.

Rivers of America and Tom Sawyer Island are closed! (Until 10am, that is. What do you think this is? Disneyland?)

    MagicKingdomPhotoUpdate_01142016-46 MagicKingdomPhotoUpdate_01142016-16

The Liberty Belle Riverboat sets sail at 11am.

Guests in the distance, enjoying Big Thunder Mountain.

We’ve found the high wait times! Here’s Peter Pan’s Flight. Keep in mind that this is a slow time.

Another busy morning at the Seven Dwarfs Mine Train. The queue extends over 50 yards outside of the entrance.

Things are quiet in Tomorrowland. This remains the corner of the Magic Kingdom that needs the most help, in my opinion.

Making our way into the Hub, we see the relatively newly completed walkways. They are helping quite a bit with foot traffic.

The last remaining hint that we just left the holiday season is that the Castle Dreamlights are still up.

The crane is on site though as crews work overnight to take them down. It’s nice that this year the work was done overnight so as not to bring the crane into view too much.

The final piece of the Hub construction puzzle remains the walkways on either side of the Forecourt Stage. Right now only the left side is open. It looks like the last bit of work is railing installation and some path lighting.

Selfie sticks may be banned, but there are still guests who make it past the front gate with them.

The morning hours seem to bring the most characters out. Here’s where we found them.

Minnie in Town Square next to the Barber Shop.

    MagicKingdomPhotoUpdate_01142016-4

Mary Poppins in the Plaza Gardens.

    MagicKingdomPhotoUpdate_01142016-7

Rafiki just over the Adventureland bridge on the old Adventureland Terrace.

Anastasia and Drizella near Prince Charming Regal Carrousel.

    MagicKingdomPhotoUpdate_01142016-23

Alice and the Mad Hatter near the Mad Tea Party.

    MagicKingdomPhotoUpdate_01142016-25

On our way out, we noticed the Main Street Vehicles were out in force and decided to catch a ride back to Town Square.

A ride across the Seven Seas Lagoon completed our quick trip to the Magic Kingdom.
