Lights, Motors, Action will have its last show a week from today. With its closing, we’ll lose views of the Catastrophe Canyon demolition (even though it’s basically complete), views of the Premier Theater demolition, and a sneak peek at the fireworks prep that goes on.
We went out to Hollywood Studios the other day and passed by the fireworks crew by chance near the former entrance to the retired Backlot Tour.
They roll the fireworks a short distance to a lift where they can get them up to the rooftops to be used later in the evening. These fireworks are much smaller in scale than the main fireworks, but more on those in a bit.
Moving to Lights, Motors, Action, we can find the main prep site under a tent behind the theater. It’s at the bottom of this aerial shot.
It’s at this location where they load the fireworks onto a trailer.
The trailer is then driven to an area near the old Backlot Tour load/unload area, where they are launched as part of the Symphony in the Stars nightly fireworks show. Here are some more pictures of the area.
Here’s a look at the finale from near the San Francisco facade on Streets of America.
Going forward
Disney has announced a pretty awesome sounding lineup of nighttime entertainment set to debut this summer at Hollywood Studios. With the entirety of the back of the park in a state of transition to make way for Star Wars Land and Toy Story Land, this fireworks prep site will also be moving across World Drive to a site currently under construction.

Another great post…very interesting. I’m really looking forward to seeing ‘Star Wars: A Galactic Spectacular’ when I visit in the fall.
