A look at vine work in Pandora – The World of Avatar

One of the most impressive elements of the upcoming land at Animal Kingdom, Pandora – The World of Avatar, will be the floating mountains. Of course, if you’ve been paying attention to our construction update posts, you’ll know that these floating mountains are supported by very large steel beams.

With work progressing, we’ve been able to see the theming of these steel beams to make them look like they’re vines. Vines that hold the mountains from floating away rather than supporting them. The other day we went out to Animal Kingdom to check out the progress.

What you’re seeing here are the same “vines” as above, but with a lot more scaffolding (as they’re now working on this part of the project), and a mesh-type material surrounding the steel beams for Imagineers to start molding the vines out of.

So what is this all going to look like when finished? Here’s the concept art.

But we have more than concept art. Here’s a look at a floating mountain that I believe isn’t 100% complete yet, but is much further along in the facade work than other mountains that are visible to the public.

I’m biased, because Animal Kingdom is my favorite park, but I believe this will be one of the most immersive and beautiful lands that Disney has built at Walt Disney World to date. I can’t wait to finally step into Pandora – The World of Avatar sometime in 2017!

    1. Great update. I agree wholeheartedly. I expect that Pandora, with it’s huge floating mountains, waterfalls and bio luminescent forest to be, arguably, the most immersive theme park land anywhere. I believe that one will really feel transported to another world. So excited for the 2 rides, and the land, which will be an attraction itself (like Carsland or Diagon Alley, but even better).
