UPDATE: The offer is back now, but only the VIP tent pickup, not resort delivery. Could that be offered for a later event?
Original story (with corrections) below.
In the new world of Disney upcharges, runDisney offered (and then subsequently pulled) a premium packet pickup service. For $39 you could either have them deliver your race packet, shirt, and pre-purchased items to your Walt Disney World Resort hotel, or have them available at a VIP tent on race day. Here are the details and then a screenshot of the offering.
Walt Disney World Resort Front Desk Delivery
Get your race packet, shirt and pre-purchased commemorative items delivered to your Walt Disney World Resort hotel. This service is available for all race distances with delivery Thursday, April 14 through Saturday, April 16. Your signed waiver, bib # and resort reservation are required for purchase. A photo ID is required at time of pickup.
Cost: $39 USD per adult race registration + $15 USD per additional minor (under 18) race registration staying in the same room.
10k and Half Marathon Race Day Pickup:
Receive your race packet (bib number, race shirt, and pre-purchased merchandise) the day of your scheduled race at the VIP Packet Pick-Up Tent. A photo ID and signed waiver is required and must be picked up by the registered runner.
Cost: $39 USD per race registration.
With recent upcharges such as preferred parking, Disney After Hours, and Disney Early Morning Magic, it was only a matter of time until runDisney got in on the action.
Now, they did pull it from the site. Either they weren’t ready to go live with the information, or they didn’t like the reaction on social media. Regardless of the reason, we can at least draw the conclusion that upcharges are being discussed at runDisney and even completely written up as is the case here.
What do you think? Convenient service or yet another upcharge from Disney?
