Toy Story Midway Mania is by far the most popular ride at Hollywood Studios, if we’re judging by wait time. As a result, Disney filed a permit for construction of a third track in late September of 2014. The third track should add a more capacity to the ride and help lower wait times at the attraction.
We visited Hollywood Studios yesterday evening to find that there are some visible changes in preparation for the new track coming online later this summer.
The old Soundstage 1 (most recently used for Wandering Oaken’s Trading Post and Frozen Funland) is being used for the expansion. We can see that stanchions have been recently added to the area directly outside of the building.
In the queue, Mr. Potato Head has been removed in preparation for merging of the queues and replaced by a wall. One rumor says that he won’t be back until Toy Story Land is unveiled as the entrance will more than likely be on the opposite side of the building, but we’ll see.
In addition, TV’s have been added to the part of the queue where you walk up stairs to go over the track. They display an “Instruction Manual”, letting guests know how to board the ride vehicle.
Other than that, there’s not much we can see. With 1/3rd of Hollywood Studios currently under construction, it’s imperative that this third track be completed as soon as possible to relieve summer wait times. We have no solid completion date outside of this summer.
