The Month Ahead: January 2019 at Walt Disney World

    A brand new year is upon us and we wanted to provide you with a look ahead at what’s going on at Walt Disney World this month. We’ll highlight what you can expect to experience and see at the four parks and more!

    Magic Kingdom

    January 2nd – Tomorrowland Speedway closes for a multi-month refurbishment

    January 5th – Aunt Polly’s is scheduled to close after opening for anticipated high crowds during the 2018 holiday season

    January 7th – Peter Pan’s Flight closes for a short refurbishment, reopening on February 2nd

    January 9th through January 13th – 2019 Walt Disney World Marathon event dates. The half marathon and full marathon will route through Magic Kingdom, causing some guest flow impacts on 1/12 and 1/13.

    January 18th – Mickey and Minnie’s Surprise Celebration kicks off! The celebration starts January 18th and ends September 30th. Here’s a rundown of the events:

    • Mickey and Minnie will greet guests together inside Town Square Theater, wearing all-new, colorful outfits for their special celebration
    • Celebration Station inside Town Square Theater, allows guests to sign a guestbook to let Mickey and Minnie know, personally, how much fun they had during the party
    • An all-new song, “It’s a Good Time,” will play several times daily as part of the new “Move It! Shake It! MousekeDance It! Street Party.”
    • Pluto will meet guests under the big top at Pete’s Silly Sideshow in Storybook Circus

    January 18th – 4-Park Magic Tickets go on sale

    Epcot

    January 9th through January 13th – 2019 Walt Disney World Marathon event dates. The races begin and end at Epcot every day. Expect higher crowds and transportation impacts

    January 18 – 2019 Festival of the Arts begins

    Hollywood Studios

    January 6 – Flurry of Fun event ends

    January 7 – Star Wars: A Galactic Spectacular returns as a nightly offering, replacing Jingle Bell, Jingle BAM

    January 18 – A few different offerings kick off, including:

    • Pixar Place reopens as Metroville, featuring The Incredibles
    • Monsters Inc Meet and Greet debuts at Walt Disney Presents
    • 30th Anniversary logo officially debuts (sneak peek)

    Animal Kingdom

    January 7 – Kali River Rapids closes for a multi-month refurbishment

    January 18 – Lion King 25th Anniversary Hakuna Matata Time Dance Party debuts

    and More!

    January 6 – Blizzard Beach reopens after annual refurbishment

    January 6 – Typhoon Lagoon closes for annual refurbishment

    Jaleo is scheduled to open in early 2019, likely in January
