BREAKING: Walt Disney World Theme Parks Banning Smoking Beginning May 1st

Disney has just posted some brand new park rules and one of them is a complete ban on smoking within all four Walt Disney World Resort theme parks, both Water Parks, and the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex. This ban on smoking traditional cigarettes extends to e-cigarettes and other products that produce a vapor or smoke.

The change goes into effect on May 1, 2019.

Guests looking to smoke will find a designated area outside of the parks. Smoking will still be allowed at Disney Springs and at select areas at the resort hotels.

    1. What a terrible, stupid, horrible decision by Disney. How many people are impacted negatively by other people smoking in, like, the 2 smoking areas they have? More people complain about the smell of the speedway than of smokers! People like my father can’t go more than an hour or two without smoking. You’re telling me he’s going to have to keep leaving the parks to have a cigarette? All this will do is force people to smoke in the bathrooms. This is a lose-lose for everyone.

      • Wow I hope people show you more grace for your issues. As a smoker I have always gone to great lengths to smoke well away from my kids except at Disney because I have to keep the kids close to protect them from people like you

    2. Really sad about this i’m afraid our family trips will be no more. It was hard enough getting dad to go now he has the perfect get out. Oh well i’m sure we will find sand and sea somewhere else the kids will enjoy and lets face it. Its going to be much cheaper now- so there is a bonus

      • Bye bye! We’ll be so much happier without you, now that we no longer have to smell your gross smoke.

        • I still have to stand next to the obese people sweating in line smelling of strong BO because their body can’t handle walking like a normal person or the ridiculous amount of fat in the summer heat. Smokers stink and so do the fat people. Less smokers is cool, but the amount of gross fat people is crazy too. Then you get on Star Tours and the fat guy next to you stinks, is sticky and manages to overflow into my seat.

    3. Disney you are making a huge mistake!
I and members of my family either smoke or vape
We only do this in the 2 designated areas
Why don’t you just find the ones who abuse this, by smoking in other areas and make them leave immediately
This is a really bad move on your part
Are Disney going to ban the sale of alcohol?
No of course not because this brings in a lot of money
      Unfair

      • If you’re really super desperate to smoke and vape and can’t go for a few hours without doing it, you’re an addict and need to seek medical attention. The majority of the people that go to Disney don’t smoke and we’re so tired of walking through clouds of it. Even in smoking areas it still carries to other areas. Why don’t you do your lungs a favor and quit

      • Unfair is having to breath smoke and vape some selfish slob is spewing into OUR air. Smoke or vape yourself to death, just do it where no one else has to tolerate it.

    4. Disney could have come up with at least 1 smoking area off the beaten path of any walkways in all the parks! Disney just didn’t want to take the effort to do so! I always follow the rules but now I know people will be trying to smoke where they are not suppose to! I don’t smoke around my kids or grandkids ever but it was nice to go to the smoking area a couple times a day and smoke a cigarette! We are going next week…Getting out of Epcot to smoke I might as well leave it would be so far! Disney might have just lost a customer!

      • Agreed, the current smoking areas are far and few. Won’t be renewing my AP. No hard feelings. Just isn’t worth the trouble

    6. I’m personally happy they did this. I hope Disney fans like Disney more than they need to smoke. hopefully it’ll inspire some people to quit.

I see people are threatening not to go to Disney anymore because of this. Just means shorter wait times.

      • I’m still going and so will they it’s just a topic of convo just like when smoking was stopped on planes we stil fly right I’m not to bothered to be fair more time to have fun around the parks instead of wasting my time in the smoking area and Iv always felt bad for the cast members having to clean the smoking areas as they are none smokers let’s face it it’s like one big ashtray so I’m all for it
It will do me good give my lungs a break and I’m sure Disney know we will be eating more snacks to compensate ? positive thinking ??

    7. Good. Were tired of walking thru your cancer clouds. Seeing all those poor kids standing around in the smoking area waiting for their degenerate parents to finish smoking is so sad.

      • They probably are used to the smoke anyway their parents probably smoke indoors and always been around smokers most countries outside Europe (except a few) and America you can still smoke inside we are just use to smoking restrictions

    8. Statistically, most people don’t smoke anymore. Going forward it will be less and less. They are just catering to the majority of guests who don’t wish to be around smoke at ALL instead of pandering to those stuck waaayyyy in the past. It makes sense financially and holds to their values as a company.

Smokers act like it’s a medical necessity and it’s their right to smoke wherever they “need” to. But, in fact, there are NO health benefits. Second hand smoke kills people, especiallf children. So even if you “follow the rules” that one person who doesn’t is worth changing the rules for to protect children. If you disagree, I’m sorry to say this – but you are part of the problem.

Expect to see this new rule grow im companies and businesses across America.

      • I quit smoking but I vape now and since they’re put in same category which I understand cuz some people blow out mountains of vape but it doesn’t linger like cig smoke. Anyway 2 years ago when I went to Disney I did smoke and the smoking areas minus maybe 1 or 2 in all 4 parks where pretty much secluded cuz took forever trying to find one. Like I get relocating them and even cutting back on them but to have people have to exit the park every time they need to smoke I think is a little extreme. I bet they never ban Alcohol tho

      • Fatty foods , high glucose ( sugar ) foods and drinks need to be banned at Disney . They are the leading causes of diabetes and cancers of kids and adults . So let’s clean up the parks no sugar in any foods and no sweet teas , soda’s , ice cream and so on . Let’s be healthy . Sarcasm

    9. I understand why Disney did this, but some of the comments on this article are so unnecessary. Smoking is an addiction, just like any other addiction. Most people who smoke, can’t just stop immediately and all of a sudden they can go a whole day without smoking. Quitting an addiction, wither it be smoking, alcohol, drugs, etc. is HARD. It comes with withdraws & triggers and its not an overnight change. Most smokers I know, know its bad & have tried quitting. Also, most smokers I know feel terrible for smoking around people and kids. It’s not their fault Disney decided to put the smoking areas near exit queues and in busy locations. I can think of many areas that would have been more suited for smoking than where they are now. Disney has drastically cut down on smoking areas already & why I understand their business decision, I think they could have taken another approach.

    10. I wonder how they plan to handle guests who vape medical CBD such as me? I have a chronic pain syndrome so for me, yes, vaping is a medical necessity. CBD can be consumed in other forms but for me, vaping has proven the best way to get enough quickly and in quantities that do not make me vomit. I usually attend WDW 2-3 times a year.

      • A: CBD won’t induce vomiting, it’s used for nausea, so right off the bat you’re exposing your ignorance of your own “medication”. B: You obviously can’t read. It specifically said no vaping, they don’t care what’s in it. Guess what they can’t control? Edibles. Eat them, enjoy the park, and let us all be thankful we don’t have to breathe your nasty vape spew.

        • Clearly you can’t read she said “vaping has proven the best way to get enough quickly and in quantities that does not make me vomit” did you catch the part where she said it don’t make her vomit just checking maybe you should check before you make yourself look stupid thanks

    11. Thank you Disney for making your parks smoke free!! We appreciate your progressive move for a cleaner environment and Disney experience for all of us.

      • Now time to take all the sugar in foods and drinks out of Disney . Me and other diabetics need this , it’s killing us .

    12. I hope not Iv never smoked outside the areas or seen anyone althou iv been to busy enjoying the parks to notice I’m pleased really Iv always felt bad for the cast members having to clean the smoking areas as none smokers themselves anyway I’m being positive about it more time for me to enjoy the magic ?

    13. Good bye Disney. We will not renew our annual passes. I have 6 grand children who look forward to going on their birthdays. We have always followed your rules and only smoked in designated areas but this is ridiculous. You lost our business as of May 1st.

    14. Come on!!! I recently went to Disney 3 weeks ago! I’m a smoker, it was extremely hard finding those designated smoking areas but I did find them. I needed that time out for my sanity! I didn’t smoke as much as I do regularly, but come on…at least just put one designated area in the park. I spent 5000 dollars for 5 days just please let us keep our sanity!

      • Go out to your car, and feel free to contaminate the environment entirely contained within the doors of your own vehicle.

        • Oh do you own a car too? Do you eat BBQ? Do you spray perfumes all over yourself? Do you have BO? Do you drink alcohol? Do you breath the theme park air peppered with chemical smells that are intended to mask the smells of running Disney? Put powder on your baby? Burn a candle? Use room deodorizers? I can go on……any one of these things are worse for your health than catching a whiff of a cigarette while walking past a smoking section. Lay off people!!! You are no better!!!! I don’t smoke, but am sick to tears of people constantly trying to control everyone else, but don’t take what I like to do away!!! Walt Disney himself didn’t quit smoking!!!! He just didn’t do it in front of everyone. I do not smoke( just tired of selfish loud mouths)

    15. So many entitled people. Obviously it’s an addiction, obviously it’s not as easy as quitting on the spot but if you can’t find alternatives such as nicotine patches or just leaving the park then shame on you. If you’re visiting from the UK like I for example, you can go 8/9+ hours without a smoke on the flight to USA so why not do the same in the park? There are no down sides to this, only selfish people who want to be pandered to.

    16. Why are you people so self righteous and so self entitled? If you’re a nonsmoker good for you and if you’re smoker good for you too, just don’t don’t be a jerk about it. If people are being respectful about what they are doing, who cares?

    17. It does when they contaminate the air I’m breathing. You want to kill yourself? Fine. Do it away from me.

    18. Unfair is having to breath smoke and vape some selfish slob is spewing into OUR air. Smoke or vape yourself to death, just do it where no one else has to tolerate it.

      • Obviously you haven’t been to Disney World recently. There are designated smoking areas, you can’t just walk around smoking. The smoking areas over the years have been cut down. Last year there were only 2 in the entire Magic Kingdom park, which happens to be the largest visitor area. Epcot technically would be the largest, but the World showcase has it’s own entry point so that breaks the park in half. Animal Kingdom is the largest by size but most of that is land for the animals. Disney had done a great job of “hiding” the smoking areas with most of them with a one way in and one way out, so if you were there by mistake check your map and figure out where you are, you’re in OUR area. I love the just do it where no one else has to tolerate it line. Can I please get the same rule for rude and arrogant people. How about obnoxious groups from other countries (Oh the stories I can tell about those groups with 50 kids and one adult who has no clue what is happening at the back of the bus). I don’t mind the new rules, I have been saying they were going to do it for years, you could see it coming if you visited regularly. I like the limited smoking areas, made it more difficult to smoke, so we pass up on “hitting the smoking area” and move onto another attraction until we are in the area of the smoking area. The one piece I don’t like is sometimes it was nice to grab a cold drink, head to the smoking area and strike up a conversation with another fellow smoker outcast. So my last comment will be to your last line, where would you like me to smoke, pretty soon I will only be able to smoke in my house (and I don’t do that now) because smoking out doors even in the privacy of my own backyard will be under fire.

    19. I hope you eat organic food, because that’s where your cancer is going to come from. Food. Your lungs heal pretty fast, and if no one in your immediate family smoke, chances are you will be o.k., but…if you feed your body food that was soaked in chemicals day after day. I’d say that’s your addiction, and as soon as everyone bans these foods………….I don’t smoke, I just think you are a hypocrite in some way, maybe you do eat healthy? Don’t drink alcohol, drive a car( more pollution than smoking)….

      • Ok if you have that type of disease you would be on substained oxygen via a mask . Because they cook at Disney and that produces smoke as well and of anything that would kill you that would be it . That or the fog machines that produce vapor

    20. Well you should stop breathing all together!! Because everything else you breathe in is contaminated to!!!!!

    21. I am a smoker and this does not bother me one bit…….but i have always been a courteous smoker and would not force my bad habit onto others. Even if i am at a venue, restaurant, concert, etc, that allow pubic smoking. I do not smoke near others. When we go on cruises, we dont mind going to the designated smoking locations……but on the same not, people have no right to go to or be near the smoking areas and bitch moan and complain. We have a limited area so stay our of our space.

    22. ATTENTION to SMOKERS !!!! Disney does not want us in their parks !! Universal Studios will still treat you with respect. Attention Non-Smokers!!! Let me know when Disney Violates your personal legal choices. Funny how drinking is still allowed yet responsible for a lot of hurt in this country. I smoke but do not drink, drinking is disgusting and allowed EVERYWHERE in the park around the children. Thank you, Disney, for your unfair rules. Nice example for the children. I have booked this July and will go, it will be my last. I will spend my time enjoying the park, complaining everywhere about the alcohol, smoking in the men’s room, and when a server offers me alcohol, I will ask to see the manager and complain that the children are at risk with Disney’s reckless behavior of serving it.

    23. Disney has become a liberal and progressive company. ENOUGH SAID
If Disney made money on cigarettes like they do with alcohol, you would still have
      smoking sections in the parks.

    24. We live less than 30 minutes away and have been annual passholders for years. We usually go twice a month or more. Come May 1 we will not be returning. Looks like we will be annual passholders for Universal now. I do not smoke, but my mother does. Many of the out of country visitors we have met at Disney were pleased there was a smoking area and upset that all restaurants did not have smoking areas. Disney need to relook at its target demographic. It is not just the young families anymore. The babyboomers like to go as well and many of them have smoked for years. If marijuana becomes legal for recreational use in Florida, will people be allowed to smoke a joint on Disney property?????
