An announcement years in the making has just been made by Disney CEO Bob Iger. Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge will open at Disneyland on May 31, 2019 and at Walt Disney World on August 29, 2019.
Disney has been on a path to a Star Wars Land in the parks since they officially acquired Lucasfilm back in 2012. The largest movie franchise in the world has been married smartly to the largest theme park operator in the world. Back in August 2015, Disney CEO Bob Iger famously declared that Disney would be bringing Star Wars to Disneyland and Disney’s Hollywood Studios. These 14-acre lands will thrust the guest into their very own Star Wars story!
Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge will have two attractions, Smugglers Run and Rise of the Resistance.
Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run
Millennium Falcon: Smuggler’s Run will allow 6 guests to pilot the Millennium Falcon as they smuggle goods through the galaxy with Hondo Ohnaka and Chewbacca. There will be three unique and critical roles to be played. The attraction is being built in the south corner of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge and will feature the fastest ship in the galaxy in front of the attraction.
Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance
On Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance guests can join an epic battle between the First Order and the Resistance – including a face-off with Kylo Ren!
In addition to two attractions, there will be multiple spots to grab a bite to eat, including Oga’s Cantina. While you’re dodging stormtroopers (or that Aqualish who beat you at sabacc), why not stop and quench your thirst? Sample famous concoctions full of out-of-this-world ingredients, served up in unique vessels. Whether you’re seeking a celestial spirit, or something more kid-friendly, Oga has something for everyone!
