PHOTOS: Preparations Underway to Drain Cinderella Castle Moat

Disney has begun preparations to drain the moat around Cinderella Castle at Magic Kingdom. The moat needs to be drained to support a path widening project on the west side of the Castle. While no actual water has been drained yet, equipment and barriers are in place to allow for draining soon.

We’ll start near Liberty Square, where there is damming taking place and a bit of machinery that will do the actual work of draining the moat.

Next, we’ll take a look at the pathway that is scheduled to be widened. As you can see below, it’s quite a narrow pathway and is utilized heavily at rope drop to get to Fantasyland. Plants along the bank of the moat have been removed.

Making our way over to Tomorrowland, we see a similar setup as near Liberty Square – a dam and machinery to drain the moat.

Keep checking back with us as we continue to monitor this project and more from around Walt Disney World.
