Latest Look at Disney’s Hollywood Studios Entrance Overhaul Project (Bag Check Expansion, New Planters, and More)

We made it out to Disney’s Hollywood Studios today to enjoy some of the 114° “feels like” weather we’ve been having for a few weeks now, and decided to check out the entrance overhaul project. Just like the International Gateway demolition project, we’ve seen some adjusted pathways and new construction since our last update.

We’ll start near the park entrance and make our way back towards the Disney Skyliner station some 600 feet away. As you can see below, the majority of the walkway that has been used as the main entrance to Disney’s Hollywood Studios is now under construction. Note that the fence does stop before the ticket booths, allowing access to the windows during the construction.

A reverse look from the ticket windows back towards the construction reveals the first of three circular planters.

We see another planter near the bend in the bag check structure. It’s likely that we’ll see the displaced Mickey topiary (and more) find there way back towards this area.

Walking to the other side of bag check now, we see that the final straightaway of the structure is coming along nicely. This whole project should finish up comfortably ahead of the Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge opening date on August 29th. Of course, there will be Annual Passholder previews before the land officially opens, so the construction schedule is likely targeting a July or early August completion date.

More grading and concrete work was underway this afternoon.

We have been walking towards the Friendships dock for the above photos, and now we’ll walk back towards the parking lot for the next few photos to give you an idea on how the pathway is currently routed.

In the above photo, we have the bag check area work to the right, and a pathway project to the left. The photo below is a look at the work taking place behind the construction wall on the left.

With this walkway under construction, guests have to go around the structure seen on the right side of the above photo. Here’s a look at the walkway that guests would take to the Disney bus loop or the rideshare area.

A much wider look shows the expanded area outside of the bagcheck (left), with the structure (middle) and Disney Skyliner station (behind the palms).

A reverse look shows the main walkway from the Disney Skyliner/bus loop walkway towards bag check.

Finally, here’s a wider look at the blocked pathway (center), Disney Skyliner station construction wall (right), and the pathway guests use to get to bag check passing the cars on the left.

Of course, the majority of this construction won’t affect your arrival experience from the parking lot since the new tram loop opened.
