This afternoon at a Cast Member rally for a wage increase, representatives from the Sevice Trades Council Union collective announced that they will be returning to the negotiation table next week following a stalemate that lasted a month. Disney and STCU reps last met in February. Negotiations are set to resume Thursday, March 23rd according to an announcement made at the rally by STCU President Matt Hollis:
We’ve made a lot of progress in work rules, we’ve made a lot of progress in very important areas, but that does not replace the fact that Disney workers need real wages and they need them now.
So, I have good news for you. We’re going to be meeting next week with the company in bargaining back at the Wyndham next Thursday.
When we get there, we’re expecting to see an offer that reflects the priorities that we have continued to tell the company are important to every Disney worker.
Earlier today, a Disney spokesperson issued the following statement to BlogMickey.com about the ongoing negotiations with the STCU:
We look forward to resuming discussions with the union and reaching an agreement that raises cast member wages.
