A man was arrested after his bag set off metal detectors in Hotel New York at Disneyland Paris today French authorities say. The suspect was carrying two handguns, ammunition, and a Qur’an.

Here’s a look at the hotels proximity in relation to the two parks.

François Banon, Disneyland Paris VP Communication and Public Affairs, stated, “During a routine security screening checkpoint at one of our hotels, weapons were discovered in a guest’s luggage through our x-ray machine. The police were immediately notified and the individual was arrested. We continue to work closely with the authorities, and the safety and security of our guests and cast members is our utmost priority.”

The man also had a female companion who is currently at large after evading arrest.

Why this matters

Tensions remain high in Paris where there is a state of high alert following the November 13 terrorist attacks. With Disneyland Paris having metal detectors months before domestic parks, it is nice to read that they were effective in this case.
