Thanks to a new update on the Google Play app store, we’ve just learned that pay to play “Job Packs” are in the plans for the Star Wars Datapad.
As a refresher, the Star Wars Datapad is a subsection within the Play Disney Parks app that activates when you step foot inside Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Disneyland (and eventually Disney’s Hollywood Studios). The Star Wars Datapad allows you to interact with the land in a way that we’ve never seen before in a Disney Park. From hacking communications to translating otherworldly languages, the Star Wars Datapad has often been referred to as an attraction all its own.
Now, it looks like Disney is getting ready to cash in on the Play Disney Parks app via “Job Packs” that will be available for purchase to enhance your Star Wars Datapad experience. So far, we’ve heard of three job packs: First Order Job Pack, The Resistance Job Pack, and The Scoundrel Jobs Pack. These Job Packs have been introduced into the code of the latest version of the app, but have not been turned on yet. It’s likely that Disney is currently laying the groundwork for a rollout of the Job Packs at a later date. As of publish, a timeline for the rollout has not been established. Note that the “Job Packs” will be in addition to the existing functionality of the app.
Each of the Job Packs will be unique to which side of the ongoing battle on Batuu you pick. Of course, if you just can’t choose and are only looking out for your own interests, there is the scoundrel route, where you simply play both sides in an effort to raise your own status.
As of right now, we’re not sure how much these Job Packs will cost, but the Play Disney Parks app listing on Google Play currently show an in-app purchase price range from $1.99 to $4.99.
This information should be treated as unofficial information unless and until Disney confirms it.
