Marvel Land Construction Aerial Photos; Spider-Man Attraction Beam Signed by Imagineering at Disney California Adventure (July 2019)

Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge may be open at Disneyland Park, but that doesn’t mean all is quiet at the Disneyland Resort. As a matter of fact, Disney is hard at work to bring a Marvel land to Disney California Adventure. Thanks to some recent aerial photography from our friends at Nearmap, we have a new look at the progress that’s been made so far.

We’ll start with an overview before zooming in for a closer look. As you can see below, Marvel land will sit between Cars Land and Hollywood Land in Disney California Adventure. This space used to be A Bug’s Land, housing attractions such as Flik’s Flyers, Francis’ Ladybug Boogie, Princess Dot Puddle Park, Tuck and Roll’s Drive ‘Em Buggies, and the legendary Heimlich’s Chew Chew Train.

Changing our orientation a bit, we see Hollywood Land to the north, Cars Land to the south, and Guardians of the Galaxy: Mission BREAKOUT to the east. It has been said that Guardians will anchor the new land, and was developed specifically with the expansion in mind. This overview provides perhaps the best visualization so far on how it will all flow.

Ok, taking a closer look at some of the areas of interest, we’ll start with the western side of the site, and work our way over towards Guardians. This is the site of the former it’s tough to be a bug theater, and is said to be the new home of a Spider-Man attraction. The attraction is said to be similar, if not exactly the same as the attraction coming to the Walt Disney Studios Park in Paris.

The blueprints for the Paris attraction leaked online not too long ago. Keep in mind that the blueprints below show a restaurant and Tower of Terror. The placement of those things is unique to Walt Disney Studios Park, but the shape and layout of the building should be similar.

Eagle-eyed guests can spot the topping off of the Spider-Man attraction with a beam signed by Imagineers and spray painted with the iconic logo.

Moving on, we take a look at the north end of the site, where the outline of a building can be seen. This building will sit next to the old Bug’s Land restrooms, which appear to be untouched immediately to the left of the foundation in progress.

Other interesting elements can be seen in the bottom left of the above image, and in the center of the below image.

On the south end of the construction site is what appears to be a deep trench of sorts. We can also see how close all of this will be to Cars Land, with Luigi’s Flying Tires in the bottom middle of the photo below. We really hope that Disney is able to create beautiful sightlines when the project is done, as it would be a shame for Cars Land to be backed up to unthemed buildings.

One final point to note here is how the Red Car Trolley barn sits outside of the current construction site. In the photo below, you can see the end of the Red Car Trolley path in front of Guardians (top of image), and a rough outline of the pathway back to the barn (white roof). Disney has just cut the Red Car Trolley News Boys show, but they have stated that the Red Car Trolley will return in 2020.
