A new roadway that connects Reams Road (a public roadway), and Floridian Way is now open at Walt Disney World. The road bypasses many of the backstage areas that guests and Cast Members use to pass by to exit to the neighborhoods and cities north of Walt Disney World. The new roadway is now active on Google Maps this morning, and should be available for navigational purposes.
We made it out early this morning to film a full ride along the new road, starting on Reams Road and ending on southbound World Drive past Magic Kingdom.
We’ve been following this project since its inception back in 2015. The new road should relieve a lot of the morning and evening congestion that is common as Cast Members and guests drive through property. In addition to peak hours, the new road will allow drivers to navigate north of Walt Disney World during special event perimeter fireworks launches. In the past, the roads would need to shut down for safety reasons during perimeter firework launches seen during special events such as Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party, New Years, and more.
This north entrance is just the latest in a series of roadway projects meant to ease congestion around property. Other projects we’ve seen recently include the Magic Kingdom toll plaza bypass and the new entrance to Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Here’s a look back at an early permit for the project.
