Reputation Readers Added to Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge

It looks like your “reputation” really will follow you around in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge. Did you crash the Millennium Falcon while flying a mission for Hondo Ohnaka? Those actions were said to follow you around the land as you interact with Batuuans. However, none of those types of interaction were available in the opening weeks of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, leading many to speculate that it had been cut from the tech that drives the land. Now, it appears that Disney is ready to roll out the “reputation readers” that will drive a deeper interaction and storytelling experience when you visit Batuu.

According to a tweet by @nickytea, reputation readers have been installed in select areas within Batuu. The readers display simple stats, such as your allegiance to the First Order or the Resistance via minimalist icons. No personal information appears to be displayed. Also, it’s reported that the readers use bluetooth to communicate with the Play Disney Parks app to retrieve relevant information.

As you might be able to see in the above image, there are different icons. Each icon represents something to the Cast Member reading it. The icons directly correspond with your reputation, changing ever so slightly for the Cast Member reading it depending on your “ranking”. Here are some examples of the different achievements and for the icon on the left side of the reader as seen above.

Nickytea reported that Batuuans working the Toydarian Toymaker stall mentioned his performance on the Millennium Falcon, fulfilling a promise that Imagineering had made in the early days of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge announcements.

Of course, whether or not a Cast Member decides to take an interaction to a deeper level depends on that specific Cast Member and the logistical demands of the interaction.

If we’re being candid, we were in the group that had assumed that these types of next-level interactions had been cut. We’re happy to see that Imagineering and Disney are still perfecting the craft of immersive storytelling and hope that the next-level interactions can grow with the land and future expansion plans.

Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge is now open in Disneyland, and will open at Disney’s Hollywood Studios on August 29th.
