It looks like Disney’s newest hotel is having some major issues tonight. Gran Destino Tower, which has been open for less than a month, is only running on one of its two transformers, according to Cast Members at the resort. Earlier this morning, a transformer reportedly blew, leaving half of the resort in darkness tonight. Here’s a look at the resort as the sun set on it tonight.
The source of the issue hasn’t been discovered or fixed as of publish time, causing half of the guests to be relocated either within the tower or to other rooms at Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort. The resort has been plagued with electrical issues since it opened, with the most noticeable issue being the flickering of lights in the main lobby.
Guests are still able to check into their rooms and the lobby has power. Barcelona Lounge is open and serving guests. That said, the lobby and hotel walkways are noticeably warmer, presumably running on half of the air conditioning the hotel is use to using.
Operationally, the fire doors have demagnetized on half of the hotel as well as the elevator hallways. The elevators are still operational, and guests are able to safely use them according to Cast Members.
Dahlia Lounge is closed tonight, but Toledo – Tapas, Steak & Seafood is located on the side with power and is operational.
Some of the Cast Members we spoke with said that they have been given an estimated “fix” time of Wednesday, but no official notice has been posted to guests. If you are concerned that this might affect your upcoming stay, we recommend that you reach out to Disney to get the latest information.
The week of July 14, 2019 at the El Mercado they closed the grill and only had pizza and pasta for those on quick service plan. Then on July16, 2016 they closed the whole restaurant at 10:00 pm once again leaving my family without quick service because we had used our sit down meal at chef mickey for breakfast.
