Guests who are looking to ride Primeval Whirl at Disney’s Animal Kingdom will now have to wait until at least October. Disney has just announced that Primeval Whirl will be closed through all of September. There have been multiple extensions of the expected reopening date, with the most recent expected reopening date listed as August 4th. Disney has previously extended the downtime in week-long segments, so the change to a full two months is concerning for the future of the ride.
Disney has remained silent on what, exactly, is causing the downtime for the attraction, but it would stand to reason that the “wild mouse”-type attraction is facing extremely big issues. Guests who had booked a FastPass+ for the attraction have been notified of the downtime and have been given a replacement FastPass+ already.
The only statement that Disney has put out on the matter is:
The Primeval Whirl attraction at Disney’s Animal Kingdom is currently unavailable due to an extended downtime. We apologize for the inconvenience and will reopen the attraction as soon as possible. Guests may check the current wait time and operating status of attractions on the My Disney Experience app.
We stopped by the other day to take a look at the attraction. There are no signs of construction or refurbishment. As a matter of fact, the whole ride looks like it could use a fresh coat of paint. When talking with Cast Members, they said that Disney hopes to have the attraction running in “mid-Fall”.
