With construction walls blocking off half of Future World East, crews are able to make progress on a variety of projects, including Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind, and the new Play Pavilion. While we released some new details on Cosmic Rewind earlier today, it’s the Play Pavilion that we’re interested with for this post. First, here are a couple of pieces of concept art that showcase both the interior and exterior of the pavilion.
Keeping the exterior image above in mind, let’s take a look at the stylized look of the pavilion as seen in ‘The Epcot Experience‘ model.
A few things jump out to us. First is the buildings on top of the pavilion in the model below. This is very likely just a stylized take on what will be inside the building as it’s unlikely that the top of the building could support additions, even if they’re just facades. Also, we haven’t seen any concept art that would suggest that buildings will sit on top of the former Wonders of Life structure. Second is the space seen in front of the pavilion. We see it front and center in the model, and off to the left in the concept art. We’re not sure what it will be, but it likely will be more than just stroller parking or something trivial if it was to be included in the model.
Also of note is that both the model and the concept art show trees to the right of the building. As you’ll see in the photos below, land clearing is underway and the trees have been removed. The vantage point in the series of photos below is from the monorail as it moves past the Play Pavilion from left to right.
In the photo below, enough trees have been cleared to see an Imagineering building (in blue) that was built last year.
Here are a couple of wider shots to provide better context to the work. As an aside, the construction wall that seperated the Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind work and the Play Pavilion have been removed. You can see the faint outline that the walls made on the pavement on the left side of the image below. In case you missed it, we provided some new details about Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind earlier today in this post.
Finally, here’s a look at the Future World East area of a massive mural of the Epcot overhaul project found in The Epcot Experience exhibit. In it, we can get a vague idea of what this area, soon to be renamed World Discovery, will look like when it’s finished in 2021.
