Magic Kingdom Entrance Overhaul Project (Permanent Expanded Bag Check Structure and Walkways Taking Shape)

In additon to the big update coming out of Tomorrowland for the Tron Lightcycle Run roller coaster, we have another construction update for you from Magic Kingdom today. As you might remember, a modified entrance experience to Magic Kingdom is currently under construction as Disney prepares for anticipated big crowds for the Resort’s 50th anniversary in 2021. To ease congestion and streamline the arrival experience, all four Disney theme parks are (or have) undergone work to expand pathways and security screening.

Even though there is some work taking place at the Transportation and Ticket Center, this photo update is concerned with the experience on the Magic Kingdom side of Seven Seas Lagoon. Let’s take a look.

We’ll start with the approach from the Magic Kingdom ferry transportation dock. As we walk towards the main entrance, we can see a permanent bag check structure taking shape on the right side. Because the ferry is inside the security bubble, guests won’t have to go through this screening area. The new structure will service the bus drop off area.

A couple of more angles of this construction before moving on. This first photo is from the bus entrance walkway and illustrates the amount of work still left. We can see the foundations are poured and ready for the frame.

From the monorail, we can see the amount of work left, as well as the temporary bag check tent.

Back to our walk to the main entrance from the ferry dock. First, here’s a look at the permit that shows the changes coming to the area. Most notably, there will be more direct walkways from the various transportation areas (TTC ferry dock, resorts watercraft dock, and monorail).

We can see these walkways beginning to take shape. The photo below is of the walkway from the TTC ferry dock.

    Another angle of the work.

From the monorail, we can see the pathways taking shape on either side of the guest walkway from the resort watercraft dock.

Here’s a look at the left side of the work, which will service an expanded watercraft dock and walkway from the Grand Floridian Resort.

Focusing on just the left side of the above photo, we can see the curbing and walkway taking shape.

Finally, here’s a look at the “progress” of the demolition of one of the resort watercraft docks as Disney looks to expand the area.
