X-Wing Drones Packed Up and Leaving Walt Disney World After Limited-Use for Rise of the Resistance Opening Event

Aerial photos from @bioreconstruct have confirmed that the Boeing X-Wing drones used for the opening event of Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance will not be a permanent offering. As noted in our original article where we exclusively reported about the existence of the drones, we speculated that they would not be for daily use and that the average guest would not be able to see them. They were simply brought in for the grand opening media event (and luckily a couple of days after), and then packed up and shipped out. Unfortunately, as you can see in the photos below, the X-Wing drones are indeed being packed up and shipped out of Walt Disney World, with their return uncertain.

As we highlighted in our article, there were simply too many hurdles to clear to make this a permanent offering. While we’re very happy to see that Disney tried to make the opening days after the Rise of the Resistance media event special by using the drones, we’re saddened to see that they were just here for a limited-time and that the vast majority of guests visiting will not be able to see them.

That said, the Rise of the Resistance attraction has proven to be an extremely impressive ride and something that we know guests will be able to enjoy for decades to come. For a ride through of the attraction and full experience, check out our video below.

    1. I was just happy they also put them up for a few days after the media event… but even standing just outside the entrance to Galaxy’s Edge you could see them really well on the media event day. They did look really cool and they had some nice audio to go with them when you were inside the park.
