Cast Member Block Outs Extended Through April 2020 at Disney’s Hollywood Studios

Hype and crowds for Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance are still at as high (or higher) than what we saw in the weeks after the attraction opened. With boarding groups being distributed within minutes (and sometimes seconds) every single morning, there are plenty of guests each day that don’t get to experience the attraction. Combine the high crowds with nearly daily downtime and you have an attraction that is the toughest to experience at Walt Disney World.

To accommodate the large rope drop crowds and continued interest in the attraction, Disney has consistently extended park hours in an effort to get as many guests through the attraction as possible.

Unfortunately for Cast Members who rely on their Main Entrance and Self-Admission passes to get into the Walt Disney World theme parks, Disney has released the April blockout calendar and they are blocked out from entering Disney’s Hollywood Studios throughout all of April. We previously covered the fact that Cast Members were blocked out through March.

This block out extension is likely due to the fact that Disney can’t even get half of the guests visiting Disney’s Hollywood Studios on to the Rise of the Resistance attraction. While the demand remains high, we expect to see block outs remain in place for Cast Members. If the block outs hold at Disney’s Hollywood Studios through April, that will means that that Cast Members will have been unable to visit Disney’s Hollywood Studios for 5 months, beginning last December.

In addition to the high demand for Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance, a brand new attraction will be opening on March 4th – Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway. Two new attractions opening in a span of three months will likely mean that we’ll continue to see large crowds and a “play it by ear” approach to park hours through at least the end of spring.

    1. Your blog is very late. The blackouts have always been through April. It’s reflected that for cast members for the past couple months now. So in a way I’d almost say it’s inaccurate when you say it’s just been extended.

    2. Why are you even reporting on this…? This isn’t public information, guests shouldn’t care, and CMs already know.

    3. Way to go Disney. This means there’ll be a second attraction CMs won’t be able to experience (let alone preview), while all the media and “influencers” will be escorted right in.

    4. This continues to suck honestly… my spouse has worked there for almost 14 years and there used to be no such thing as self-admission block out dates. Now we want to go this weekend or next for my birthday and yet again I can get in with my platinum AP but he can’t. It’s absolutely ridiculous.
