Say hello to Chuuby! No, his name isn’t a typo, although it did start out as one, according to a piece by the OC Register.
Chuuby (pronounced chew-bee), was once a critter in the background scene of Runamuck Park, but his role in the attraction developed over time, according to Imagineers.
Originally tucked away in the concept art seen below, we’ve enhanced the image to give you a good look at Disney’s newest orange bird.
Kevin Rafferty, lead Imagineer on Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway had this to say about the backstory of the cute little bird and his story as it relates to the attraction.
“When we were designing the character there was a misspelling. His original name was Chubby, but instead of two B’s, there were two U’s and it stuck. We have a scene in the attraction that required some critters. Chuuby was going to just be part of the ambiance. Chuuby is a song-and-dance bird. He’s a ham. When he flew out of the nest what he really wanted to do was head to Broadway.”
Could Chuuby’s story be the secondary storyline that Rafferty eluded to?
All will be revealed on March 4th when guests get to ride Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. For more on the attraction, check out the short preview video below and our scene-by-scene breakdown of the attraction (HERE).
