With just a couple of days to go until the Walt Disney World theme parks close due to Coronavirus (COVID-19), Disney is wasting no time in taking the necessary steps now go ensure guests visiting the theme parks this weekend are safe.
Here at BlogMickey.com, we’ve already covered the additon of portable Hand Washing Stations around the theme parks and Disney Springs, but we have a new preventative measure to report today.
Disney has implemented a new policy at Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run that removes the assignment cards that guests would normally use to indicate what seat and task they hace during the ride. Normally, guests would be given an assignment card that has a color and “position” indicated on it that would designate what group they have and the role that they’ll play during the ride. The cards would change hands often and Disnsy has decided err on the side of safety by removing the assignment cards completely.
Instead, guests are asked to form a line in the “Chess Room” and keep their groups together, even if you’re paired up with strangers. The grouping starts before you enter the Millennium Falcon and Cast help you keep your group together through the Chess Room. Photo ops are few and far between because of the order required to keep groups together beyond just yelling “Orange Team”.
Other attractions that rely on 3-D glasses such as MuppetVision and Toy Story Mania are operating as normal. Disney already has a well established cleaning program in place for 3-D glasses after guest use.
As I exited Millennium falcon, I also noticed cast members immediately coming by with spray to disinfect the seats and control panels.
