As Disney continues to negotiate with some unions over Cast Member furloughs, Scott Gustin is reporting that Disney and the American Federation of Musicians Local 389 union has reached an agreement. Here’s the joint statement issued:
American Federation of Musicians Local 389 and Disney have reached an agreement that will maintain members’ health insurance benefits coverage, educational support and additional employee assistance programs for hourly entertainment musician Cast Members during a temporary furlough effective April 19.
This agreement provides an easier return to work when our community recovers from the impact of COVID-19. We are grateful to have worked together in good faith to help our cast members navigate these unprecedented times.
This announcement is the first of what is expected to be many union announcements in the coming days as furloughs become unavoidable.
Larger unions have stated that they are working with Disney to iron out an agreement very similar to the one announced above.
Walt Disney World and Disneyland remain closed indefinitely.
