In an interview on Fox News, Governor Ron DeSantis talked about the next phase of reopening the Florida economy. As you might know, Walt Disney World President Josh D’Amaro was recently added to the state’s task force of business leaders and more to reopen the economy. As elected officials and businesses look to implement a reopening in phases, DeSantis specifically called out Disney as being “far ahead of the curve” when it comes to a reopening plan.
It’s amazing the ideas that the businesses are already thinking about. They’ve been thinking deeply about this for weeks and weeks, there’s a lot of great ideas that I’ve already seen put on the table. I’m in discussions with places like Disney. They are so far ahead of the curve, and I think everyone wants to make sure we do it safely.
And yeah, if you think about it, if you own a hotel in Miami, the last thing you want is to do a false negative and have a small outbreak in your hotel. So they are very keen on safety, and I think that they’re going to be leading the way on the innovation. So we’ll have some guidelines of course, but I think some of the businesses are going to go above and beyond…
As of publish time, Disney is currently accepting reservations beginning June 1st. Even though reservations are being accepted, the Disney theme parks and resorts remain closed indefinitely.
Disney Executive Chairman Bob Iger has talked about possible temperature checks when the parks reopen, and there will likely be more mitigation measures implemented such as an extension of the portable hand washing stations that we saw installed before the parks closed.
