Disney World Opening Day Sells Out in Minutes for Annual Passholder Theme Park Reservations

The Disney Park Pass theme park reservation system went live for Annual Passholders about an hour earlier than many expected, letting the first Annual Passholders reserve their return to Walt Disney World shortly after 6am EST this morning.

By and large, the Disney Park Pass system has worked smoothly so far, with none of the reported glitches that we saw when the system opened up for resort guests earlier this week. Even with the system opening up earlier than expected, reservations for opening day flew off the shelf, so to speak, with both open Disney World theme parks selling out in minutes for the July 11th return. As you may know, Disney World will be reopening their theme parks in phases, beginning with Magic Kingdom and Disney’s Animal Kingdom on July 11th. A few days later, EPCOT and Disney’s Hollywood Studios will reopen on July 15th.

About 20 minutes after the system went live, we started getting reports on social media that Magic Kingdom and Disney’s Animal Kingdom were showing no availability on their reopening day, July 11th. The availability calendar (viewable here) showed that the 11th had no more availability a few minutes after the first reports, as evidenced below.

A few minutes later, July 12th was showing no availability. This quick dispersion of the Disney Park Pass could point to either higher demand by the Annual Passholders than for Resort Guests, or a smaller allocation to Annual Passholders when compared to Resort Guests. It’s important to note that allocation differs between Annual Passholders and Resort Guests.

While the reports we’re getting from readers typically line up with the availability calendar, some are reporting that there is availability on days that the calendar shows no availability. It was reported that clicking on the date a second or third time might show availability.

    1. My extension dates do not show and haven’t been able to book. Tried to call and the line is down.

    2. There was only one date that I couldn’t get but I was able to choose another day that I wanted. I’m still anxiously awaiting the pass holder preview email.

    3. I got animal kingdom on July 11 at 8 am today.
And my other two I got in Saturday’s following. I’m super excited for opening day!!

    4. I had no problem. I log in at 7:30 and got in right away. I got all 3 of my dates that I want at the end of July. Although my pass wasn’t extend yet. I got 3 days. Disney probably will postpone the opening anyway and all this fuss will be for nothing.

    5. The reason we bought annual passes was to avoid all the hassle of scheduling every minute of our lives. Annual pass is absolutely useless if we can’t go where and when we want to in Disney world.

    6. I think it totally wrong that there are still spots open for tickets and hotel stay people on July 11 but not for passholder. I understand if all spots are gone but didn’t I pay for a guaranteed spot when available when I bought a pass. Also universal is no registration system and it’s working well this is very unfair. Maybe I’ll cancel and go buy a day ticket since I can’t get in anyway!! So disappointed in Disney!

    7. Yes what is the sad thing you paid for platinum and you can’t get to go only if you make a reservation so why pay the big bucks and get less. I get it’s not going to be easy to keep the crowd level low without doing some thing. But I’m s till very skeptical about going Bc of the rise in the virus’s. And the people going to the parks do dont are they spend all this money let’s s eve how much they listen to social distances Andy face mask walking around Epcot with a drink in there hand. AND it’s 95 out and the humidity is 90. .and getting in the monorails.

    8. After what Bob Iger has done to Disney you won’t see me or my grand kids ever visit Disney World ever again.

Next time do not placate to woke culture or interject your politics using the Disney brand name.
