BREAKING: Spaceship Earth Overhaul and Mary Poppins Attraction CUT From EPCOT Experience

EPCOT is welcoming guests once again and we made it out today to check out what’s new and enjoy a stroll around World Showcase. Before we made it to World Showcase, we stopped into Walt Disney Imagineering Presents The EPCOT Experience out of curiosity to see if there were any changes.

As you may know, Disney has officially delayed the Spaceship Earth overhaul project. As we reported earlier this summer, Disney was defunding construction projects, a fact that they admitted when discussing a nearly $1 billion savings due to cut refurbishment and construction projects.

As it turns out, our hunch was correct and Disney has CUT two significant projects from the EPCOT Experience video that previews upcoming projects for the park. As you can see in the video below from The Schmoofs YouTube channel, the Spaceship Earth AND Mary Poppins segments were cut from the video. The video only shows the transitions, but you can compare the segments to see the cuts. The removal of the segments likely hints at significant changes or a complete abandoning of the previously announced projects.

You can see the cuts when compared to our full recording of the show back when The EPCOT Experience first opened.

Also of significance is that Disney has removed the attraction poster for the Mary Poppins attraction as well. Here’s a look back at the Mary Poppins attraction poster, which was removed from the wall.

Before the parks closed, Disney had yet to break ground on the Mary Poppins attraction, an attraction that we anticipate will be completely cut out of the future of EPCOT. Disney has not commented on the status of the Mary Poppins attraction.

    1. It would be nice to see Cherry Tree Lane completed while Tony Walton is still able to travel.

    2. I do not think they have fully been squashed. I think they are pushed back until such time as the funding can be agreed upon and we are at our new normal.

    3. Why do you keep adding roller coasters and taking out non roller coasters? You also couldn’t do homework or have Disney employees do a zoom meeting while Disney was closed due to Coronavirus!!!
