Some of the construction walls have been removed around Splash Mountain and guests are able to spot some ride vehicle (log) testing this afternoon at Magic Kingdom. As a reminder, Splash Mountain was undergoing an annual refurbishment where some touchups were done, but the Princess and the Frog retime that was announced in Summer 2020 is still years away from becoming a reality. Here’s a look around!
We’ll start with the visible and obvious work – some landscape replacements. It’s unlikely that they’ll get to the rest of the landscape work before the reopening date in a few days, so we’ll get to look at this (new left, old right).
And here’s a look around the rest of the attraction. While the ride basin has been refilled, the water isn’t “flowing” necessarily just yet down the drops and other show areas. Some testing with water jugs can also be seen.
Splash Mountain will eventually close permanently as an attraction themed to Disney’s controversial Song of the South movie, and be rethemed to a Princess and the Frog attraction. Despite Disney’s original claims that a Princess and the Frog ride has been in the works since 2019, Magic Kingdom’s Vice President more recently said that the redesign is “going to take us a bit of time”.
