The 2022 D23 Expo is in the books, and it has given Disney Parks fans plenty to talk about for years to come. While Disney Parks Chairman Josh D’Amaro talked about a lot of upcoming projects, one project that largely remained a mystery is the Zootopia attraction coming to Shanghai Disneyland. Here’s what D’Amaro had to say about the attraction:
You’ll make your way to the Zootopia Police Department, which doubles as the entrance for the land’s new family attraction.
At the Disney Parks pavilion, Disney has a ride vehicle on display as well as artwork for the attraction, but not much else.
As we can see, the ride vehicle will fit 10 guests and has a communal lap bar. This means that the attraction will not be “intense”, but we knew as much from D’Amaro’s presentation where he called it a family attraction. However, there were some Imagineers on hand to answer questions about the attraction. While many were tight-lipped about the attraction, we were able to speak to a few and piece together some more details that were not shared officially. Because the details were not official, we would still consider these details rumors, even though they were from Imagineers. Anyway, here’s what we learned.
Guests will be recruited to help Nick Wilde and Judy Hopps as they race around Zootopia. The attraction ride vehicle will be trackless and move through both physical and digital sets. Imagineers described the ride as having similar traits to that of Rise of the Resistance and the new Beauty and the Beast attraction in Tokyo Disneyland, but with domed screen displays like Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure. While the concept art depicts a wild chase, we’re told that the ride isn’t “intense” and will be enjoyable for guests of all ages.
