What Is A Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party Rain Check?

A hurricane in November? It’s rare, but this year has proven that it’s possible. With an ever-changing climate situation, it’s possible that your evening at Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party may be a rain-soaked evening. As a matter of fact, the first part of the season on November 8, 2022 was almost a complete washout. In this article, we’ll discuss what your options are on an evening at Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party that is affected by rain.

During the first Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party event this year, there were multiple entertainment offering cancelations and modifications as rain swept through the area ahead of the arrival of Hurricane Nicole. Impacts included a modified performance of the first Mickey’s Once Upon a Christmastime Parade, the cancelation of the second parade, cancelations of almost all of the Mickey’s Most Merriest Celebration stage shows (only a rain-shortened version was shown), and multiple impacts to outdoor entertainment and character meet and greets.

In the event of a rainy evening, Disney will likely attempt to work with guests to provide some sort of recovery options for guests willing to wait and speak with Guest Relations.

So, what does Disney offer if Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party is significantly impacted by weather? In short, maybe something, maybe nothing, maybe something for you and not for others – it varies. Guests who feel like their evening was significantly impacted by weather (read: multiple show cancellations, parade cancellation, fireworks cancellation, etc) can head to Guest Relations to discuss their options.

We have seen the following recovery options for guests during a rained-out upcharge event:

    • Rain Check – With a rain check, guests will pick a date that they want to return to Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party to try again. You will pick a specific date and Disney will issue you a new ticket to Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party at no additional cost. If the Cast Member is attentive, they may even offer you some money back if the event you chose is cheaper than the event you paid for.
    • Day Ticket – Alternatively, if your vacation doesn’t allow you to visit another Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party, Disney may offer you a single-day ticket to visit the theme parks. This ticket typically includes an add-on such as a park hopper or water park option to make up the difference between what you paid for the party ticket and the cheaper day ticket.
    • Refund – In our observation, this is the least likely of the options and is only offered in the most unique of circumstances. We’ve seen Guest Relations managers strongly push back against guests who ask for this option. Actually, some of the most “non-Disney” interactions we’ve seen from Cast Members have been Guest Relations managers who tell guests that a refund is not an option.

As with any Cast Member interaction, you should be polite and please realize that nobody can control the weather. Cast Members will work with you within the parameters of what they are told they can do by management.
