Lawmakers Fail to Introduce Bill Detailing State Takeover of Reedy Creek Improvement District

UPDATE (2pm): A bill has been filed. Our original article continues below.

A special session was held this afternoon with the intent to introduce a bill detailing how the State of Florida under Governor Ron DeSantis would take over the Reedy Creek Improvement District – a special taxing district that was established in the 1960s as a way of allowing Disney some governance over its operations. As announced last week by DeSantis, a special session was called today to, among other agendy items, file a bill detailing how the state would assume control of the Reedy Creek Improvement District. A special session this afternoon adjourned without the introduction of a bill and no bill was filed as of 1:15pm.

Earlier this morning, Representative Anna V. Eskamani said that “We don’t have a draft yet because these issues are being dealt with behind close doors”.

A bill could be introduced at a later time and we will conitnue to follow this story.
