|

A prolonged heat wave continues today in Central Florida, with a rare Extreme Heat Warning issued for Walt Disney World and the Central Florida area. An Extreme Heat Warning means that dangerous heat is expected today, with a “Real Feel” reaching an unbelievable 115°. Here’s the latest from the National Weather Service.

Extreme Heat Warning Issued for Walt Disney World

The Extreme Heat Warning issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) covers a significant portion of Central Florida, including the Walt Disney World area. The extreme heat is expected to peak between 12pm and 7pm today, creating dangerous conditions for people outside.

The heat is nothing short of oppressive, and the National Weather Service recommends frequent indoor rest breaks if heading outdoors, and to stay well-hydrated. Other advice from the National Weather Service includes:

  • Drink plenty of fluids
  • Stay in an air-conditioned room
  • Stay out of the sun
  • When possible reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or evening
  • Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke
  • Wear lightweight and loose-fitting clothing when possible
  • Schedule frequent rest breaks in shaded or air-conditioned environments
  • Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location
  • Heat stroke is an emergency! Call 9-1-1

Keep in mind that Disney World offers complimentary ice water at quick service locations. When visiting the parks, we make sure to stop at least once per hour to hydrate and cool down with some air conditioning. Even when this extended period of extreme heat passes, it will be imperative to stay hydrated and take breaks during a visit to Walt Disney World this summer.

There are no announced operational impacts at Walt Disney World due to the excessive heat warning at this time.
