Rivers of America Boardwalk Mysteriously Blocked This Morning at Magic Kingdom

|

The boardwalk, or riverwalk, that runs along the former Rivers of America is blocked off this morning at Magic Kingdom. Not by construction walls or ropes, but by Cast Members and managers. When we arrived at Magic Kingdom this morning, we noticed quite a few vehicles in the drained Rivers of America basin, and while those have mostly been moved out of sight, the boardwalk remains closed to guests. Cast Members are not communicating a reason for the closure, only that the boardwalk will remain closed for the foreseeable future.

UPDATE: Cast Members have formally blocked the area off with ropes. Here are a few photos, followed by our original report from earlier this morning. We have reached out to Walt Disney World for clarification on the closure. It’s unknown if this is a permanent closure or a temporary closure. It’s worth noting that the plan was to keep the boardwalk open during the construction of Piston Peak National Park, but something has changed.

Rivers of America Boardwalk Mysteriously Closed

We saw all sorts of managerial types huddled along the boardwalk this morning, and they still remain in the area to (presumably) sort through whatever issue has led to the boardwalk being closed. In terms of anything out of the ordinary, we noticed quite a bit of water draining from the Tom’s Landing area. We also noticed that crews were cleaning up some wildlife that was no longer able to survive in the small amounts of water left in the basin. Crews have recently installed a number of pumps in the drained Rivers of America basin to try and fight against the afternoon thunderstorms filling the river up on what seems to be a daily basis.
