Walt Disney World Closure FAQ (Tickets, Resort Stays, Dining Reservations, and More)

With the announcement of the Walt Disney World closure due to Coronavirus (COVID-19), we’ve been getting a lot of questions from our readers. We’ve put together this Walt Disney World Closure FAQ as a singular resource for questions about the Walt Disney World closure and the impact it’ll have on your upcoming vacation.

    Tickets

Can I get a refund on my ticket?

In short, it depends. We’ll break down the ticket types below:

    • Unexpired, multi-day tickets – Automatically extended for use any date through December 15, 2020
    • Date-specific theme park tickets – If you have a date-specific theme park ticket with a start date on or before March 31, 2020, it will be automatically extended for use on any date through December 15, 2020

What if I can’t visit on or before December 15, 2020?

If your ticket type has been automatically extended through December 15, 2020, but you’re unable to visit by then, you may apply the value of a wholly unused ticket toward the purchase of a ticket for a future date. Disney will not be offering refunds in this specific case.

What about a Florida Resident Discover Disney ticket?

Florida Resident Discover Disney tickets are valid through July 31, 2020. Disney will not be offering refunds for this ticket type.

What about hard-ticket events like Disney After Hours, Disney Villains After Hours, and Disney Early Morning Magic?

    Resorts

I arrive after the parks are closed. What about my resort stay?

For stays between March 16, 2020 through March 31, 2020, if you have not checked in, you may modify or cancel your Disney Resort room reservation or Walt Disney Travel Company package up to their original check-in date.

If no action is taken, Disney will automatically process a refund to the original form of payment within seven days of the original check-in date.

What if I’m scheduled to arrive after the parks reopen, but I want to cancel anyway?

Disney has announced that they will waive all Disney imposed change and cancellation fees up to the date of check-in through June 30, 2020.

    Dining & Other Experiences

I have pre-paid dining reservations, what happens?

    FastPass+

All FastPass+ selections for the period between March 16, 2020 and March 31, 2020 will be cancelled. Disney will not be offering new FastPass+ for a different time period.

    Walt Disney World Theme Parks

When does Walt Disney World close for Coronavirus (COVID-19)?

Disney will be closed starting the morning of March 16, 2020.

When will Walt Disney World reopen?

As of right now, all of the Disney verbiage indicates that Walt Disney World will reopen on April 1, 2020.

That said, the Coronavirus (COVID-19) situation is quite fluid right now and Disney will continue to monitor the situation and be in contact with state and local officials.

This closure is unprecedented, but we can look to overseas Disney Theme Parks to see how they have handled closures. For example, Tokyo Disneyland has extended their announced two-week closure once already.

    How do I cancel?

As you might expect, the phone lines will be very, very busy in the coming days. We have no doubt that Disney will make this right for you and your family, but patience will be required as they field many phone calls. Same thing goes for your Travel Agent. Disney has made some preliminary decisions, but more complicated or unique travel situations may require more time.
