A lot of ideas get thrown around when designing a new theme park land, and a wonderful book called The Art of Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge pulls back the curtain on how an idea can evolve, or die, over time. We’ve referenced this book before to compare and contrast the execution of different concepts within the land, but today we’re going to take a look at a concept that was left on the cutting room floor – the tailor shop.
The premise and promise of Galaxy’s Edge is simple – you get to live out your own Star Wars story. When Imagineers were conceptualizing what “living your own Star Wars story” might look like, they came up with the idea of a cosplay shop that would be Batuu’s own version of Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique.
Within the “tailor shop” there was going to be a section devoted to transforming guests from tourists to aliens. This “hidden” full-service disguise makeup shop would’ve presented guests with multiple makeup options based on a variety of Star Wars species. At the end of the experience, guests would’ve been presented with identicard. Walt Disney Imagineering managing story editor Margaret Kerrison said that the experience was “our version of Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique”. Here’s a look at the Star Wars cosplay makeover experience.
