RUMOR: Pecos Bill Tall Tale Inn & Cafe To Be Rethemed at Magic Kingdom

With Splash Mountain now closed permanently for a transformation into Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, a new rumor suggests that Imagineers aren’t done reimagining that corner of Magic Kingdom just yet. While we await more details on the “Beyond Big Thunder Mountain” idea presented by Disney Parks Chairman Josh D’Amaro, there might be a different Frontierland location that will receive more immediate attention from Imagineers.

While visiting Magic Kingdom recently, we noticed some high-profile Disney World Imagineers walking through Pecos Bill Tall Tale Inn & Cafe, discussing various aspects of the quick-service location. The Imagineers spent at least 30 minutes touring the location, walking through each room, and taking notes.

The Pecos Bill intellectual property is one that we have previously flagged for being problematic, and it is one of a handful of shorts or movies on Disney+ that have a content warning. In the “Melody Time” short, Pecos Bill is responsible for the creation of many landmarks within the United States. In a particularly striking scene, the colorful mountains of the desert are explained by Pecos Bill shooting at Native Americans wearing war paint. As Pecos Bill shoots at the Native Americans for fun, they run away and “paint” the mountains of the desert.

Pecos Bill Tall Tale Inn & Cafe sits at the end of the Frontierland line of buildings, and it is the closest building to Tiana’s Bayou Adventure. The location was previously quite popular due to a toppings bar that has been closed since COVID-19 shut down the Disney World theme parks. The location is a spacious corner building, and it even connects to Froniterland via some overflow seating.

So, what could Pecos Bill be rethemed into? Well, Tiana’s Bayou Adventure does have a heavy focus on the Tiana’s Foods concept, having installed more signs recently to elude to the backstory of the attraction. While nothing is confirmed, it’s likely that Disney will want to incorporate a culinary aspect to the new Princess and the Frog-themed attraction next door. At Disneyland, it has been confirmed that Tiana’s Palace is coming to New Orleans Square. Could we see a Tiana’s Foods location take over Pecos Bill Tall Tale Inn & Cafe? Only time will tell.

    1. Disney seems to like doing dumb things these days. Their bigotry against the South will help Universal for sure in the coming years.

    2. Really? “Problematic”?

So sick of all the ultra-liberal crap ruining society. Eddie Murphy, Richard Pryor, Bill Murray and Chris Rock would all be unknown if they were coming up today.

If you want to sanitize all culture, I guess we should pretend that absolutely nothing existed prior to 2020.

    3. Good riddance. The food is disgusting.

Pork bowl tasted like they BBQ’d it with the plastic wrapper still on.

    4. “Bigotry against the South” has to be one of the dumbest phrases I’ve ever encountered… especially in the context of changing a boring cowboy burger place with it’s best days behind it to a NEW ORLEANS THEMED RESTAURANT, which is- you know- IN THE SOUTH…

A Princess themed eatery with New Orleans cuisine is a 100% win/win from both merch & menu perspective.

    5. Funny, I consider things that are “problematic” stuff like Disney guests fighting with each other whereas Disney and certain bloggers consider cartoon characters from the south to be “problematic”

    6. I remember this cartoon – it’s an old “classic” which by today’s Disney fans – kids; don’t know it. So I can understand the updating… that’s what Disney does…..I’m okay with this change as I know some ingenious ppl who didn’t like that part of the cartoon. Honestly; as long as whatever replaces it keeps similar menu (cause I like it) then it’ll be okay to change it up. Nothing ever stays forever.

    7. GET OFF IT! Quit fabricating soap boxes to get on and pick a REAL issue to rally behind, like people acting like lawless criminals on Main Street USA!

    8. And that horrible nasty tune about someone having a place to go to feel better about their troubles too. So problematic.

    9. On a list of “problematic” issues at the parks, from rude guests to soaring quality issues, cartoon characters are probably the bottom of the list.

    10. ” A Princess themed eatery with New Orleans cuisine is a 100% win/win from both merch & menu perspective.”

The cringe is strong with this one…

    11. Don’t look now, but a lot of the actually problematic things now at WDW got their start during Iger’s prior reign.
