In an interview with the New York Times following the announcement of a $60 billion investment in the theme parks division over the next 10 years, Disney Parks Chairman Josh D’Amaro expanded on his Blue Sky plans by adding Wakanda to the list of theme park experiences the Company is considering.
Both D’Amaro and Disney CEO Bob Iger are all-in on IP. When asked about the type of expansions guests might see in the theme parks, D’Amaro mentioned the fictional world of Wakanda from the Black Panther movies.

In terms of bringing the latest Disney-Marvel-Pixar intellectual property to the parks, we haven’t come close to scratching the surface. And we have learned that incorporating Disney I.P. increases the return on investment significantly.
Of course, theme park watchers might immediately think of the (very) Blue Sky DisneylandForward “plans” to know that Disney has been thinking about getting Wakanda in its theme parks for some time. While the DisneylandForward project is best thought of as a what-if rezoning effort to possibly expand the existing Disneyland Resort theme parks over the next 30 years, it was likely no mistake that Wakanda was included in the early concept.
What is clear is that we could be on the precipice of a significant increase in spending at the Disney theme parks and cruise fleet. A little later, we’ll take a look at what $60 billion will buy you and how it compares to spending in the past.
