PHOTOS, VIDEO: ‘Holidays in Hollywood’ Show Features The Muppets & More at Disney Jollywood Nights

Last night was the first-ever Disney Jollywood Nights event at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, and as part of the event, there is exclusive entertainment for guests to enjoy. There are two new, exclusive shows that guests will find: one is a Nightmare Before Christmas sing-along and the other is a variety show hosted by The Muppets. In this article, we’ll have a full video of the Holidays in Hollywood show that takes place in the Beauty and the Beast Live on Stage theater along Sunset Blvd along with photos of the performance. Let’s take a look!

Behold an all-new stage show inspired by the glitz and glamour of vintage Hollywood TV specials—with a contemporary twist and some holiday magic—at Theater of the Stars.

See the holidays through a fresh lens in this star-studded series of jolly vignettes. Enjoy appearances from special guest stars, including Kermit the Frog, Miss Piggy, Tiana, Belle, Minnie Mouse and Mickey Mouse—accompanied by a talented cast of singers, dancers and jazz musicians.

Holidays in Hollywood takes place four times during the event at 8:45pm, 9:45pm, 10:45pm, and 11:45pm. We attended the 9:45pm show after watching the 8:30pm Nightmare Before Christmas Sing-Along and found lines to be short or even non-existent 30-45 minutes before the show. That wouldn’t be the case for the two later shows, which drew massive crowds and a line that stretched down Sunset Boulevard. Guests toward the end of the line for the 10:45pm show were advised that they would not make it and would need to wait until the 11:45pm show some 90 minutes from that point. We’ll have more thoughts on operations in a review of the event, so let’s get back to the show!

The show takes place in the Theater of the Stars on Sunset Boulevard. Our seating was probably 10 rows back from the front of the stage and relatively centered. It was a great view to not only take in the show, but also some of the projections along the perimeter of the stage.

We’ll get to The Muppets in a bit, but there were two leads who not only sang, but also hosted the show where it became impractical for Kermit and Miss Piggy to do so. Another great part about Holidays in Hollywood is the live band that plays throughout the show. The opening number includes high-energy versions of “Jingle Bells” and a modified “We Wish You a Merry Christmas” song.

A stack of presents is rolled out and the stars of the show (by audience reaction) show up! Kermit and Miss Piggy welcome guests to the show and sprinkle in some fun Muppets humor.

The conceit of the show is that there is a vintage Hollywood TV show production, complete with commercial breaks and quick-hit advertisements and teases. You are part of the live studio audience and the co-hosts work the crowd a bit in between segments. It actually plays really well and is a fun nod to the Disney’s Hollywood Studios of the past that peeled back the curtain on how movies were made.

The next segment introduces Tiana and takes place within Tiana’s Palace. Tiana sings an original holiday song called “What the Holidays Mean”, which includes plenty of dancing and even a bit of a focus on the live musicians. Tiana also sings “Up on the House Top” and puts her own spin on “Jolly Old St. Nicholas” to end her segment.

Kermit and Miss Piggy return to riff a bit before a quick number to highlight the live house band “The Jolly Eight”.

Mickey and Minnie are up next! Mickey Mouse heads out to look for a Christmas Tree while Minnie Mouse begins decorating inside her house for the holiday season. Mickey and Minnie alternate some holiday songs using a freeze frame style before Mickey shows up with a Christmas Tree and finds that Minnie has decorated her house.

It wouldn’t be the holiday season without a kiss under the mistletoe!

After a quick commercial break, Belle performs “As Long as There’s Christmas” from Beauty and the Beast: The Enchanted Christmas.

Mickey and Minnie return for the race to the show’s finale.
