The threat of a Disneyland Cast Member strike has disappeared with the ratification of a new contract for more than 14,000 Cast Members. Late yesterday, a group of unions announced that their members had voted to ratify a new contract that will see a minimum base wage rate of $24 this year, increasing to $26 per hour over the length of the contract.
In addition to the increase in starting rate, cast members represented by the Master Services Council will receive retroactive pay from June 17, 2024. All cast members with a current rate of $19.90 per hour will receive a nearly 21% initial increase to $24.00 per hour, which will increase to at least a nearly 31% increase over the life of the contract.
Cast members hired after July 29, 2024, will receive 90% of the starting rate for 52 weeks of consecutive employment and after 52 weeks of consecutive employment (without interruption of leaves) will move to the full rate.
The announcement was made by a union collective comprised of the Bakery, Confectionery, Tobacco Workers and Grain Millers (BCTGM) Local 83, SEIU-United Service Workers West (SEIU-USWW), Teamsters Local 495, and the United Food and Commercial Workers (UFCW) Local 324, together representing 14,000 cast members at Disneyland, Disney California Adventure, Downtown Disney and the Disney hotels.
By ratifying these contracts, Disney cast members have secured historic raises and policies and protections that reflect their role as magic makers in the Disney parks. For months hard-working cast members have stood together at the bargaining table and in the parks to ensure Disney recognized what they bring to the theme park experience, and these contracts are a concrete and direct result of this tireless work.
Together by wearing buttons, attending rallies and telling their stories to the public, cast members fought for a more promising future for themselves, their fellow cast members, and their families. These contracts are historic for Disney cast members and we’re pleased cast members’ lives will improve as a result.
A noteworthy component of the agreements includes longevity increases of $0.50 for cast members with over 10 years of service and a $2.00 increase for current cast members with over 20 years of service. For example, a tenured 21-year cast member with a current pay rate of $23.60 per hour would now earn $27.60 per hour. The new wage includes $2.00 for individual increases and another $2.00 for longevity of over 20 years of employment. In total, this equates to a 17% increase and, with subsequent wage increases of $1.00 in each of the other two years of the agreement, $6.00 or approximately 25% over the length of the contract.
Disneyland Resort is proud of its working relationship with the Master Services Council that allowed us to reach an agreement which focuses on what matters most to our cast members while positioning Disneyland Resort for future growth and job creation
