In an earnings call this morning, Disney CFO Hugh F Johnston was asked about Universal Epic Universe and the impact that it will have on Walt Disney World. While analysts have predicted a dip of up to 1 million guests for Walt Disney World, Johnston painted a different picture.
Epic Universe Impact on Walt Disney World
Johnston said that Disney has modeled its Experiences guidance for 2025 with Epic Universe’s opening in mind. Here’s the quote as we heard it during the call:
Regarding Epic, we did model that into our expectations for the Experiences outlook. As mentioned earlier, the early bookings that we have next summer are actually positive, so that’s certainly a positive indicator. We also looked at the history of other attractions and other parks opening up in Florida, and it’s been beneficial for us. That is very much captured in the guide we provided.
The model guidance that Johnston was referring to was “6% to 8% segment operating income growth compared to fiscal 2024”. The model suggests that that growth will come “in the second half of the year”, which means next summer into early fall.
Disney will strategically roll out some new offerings for guests in Summer 2025 to capture some of the tourists coming to Central Florida, including a new nighttime parade at Magic Kingdom and a new Villains-themed stage show, and a revamped Little Mermaid show at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.
