Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run and Pirates of the Caribbean: Battle for the Sunken Treasure Win Industry Awards

Since its debut on May 31st in Disneyland and nearly two weeks ago at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run has seen millions of guests jump into the iconic ship’s cockpit to fly a mission for Hondo Ohnaka. The ride pushes the boundaries of technology as well as anchoring Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge until Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance is completed.

As part of their 2019 Golden Ticket Awards, Amusement Today awarded two Disney attractions in the “Best New Family Attraction” category and “Best Dark Ride” category.

Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run – Best New Family Attraction

Disneyland’s newest ride, Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run, has won the golden ticket for an all-new category this year – Best New Family Attraction. Here’s the reasoning from Amusement Today:

Its exquisitely detailed theming and choice of roles for riders thoroughly immersed guests (and voters) in a dynamic, interstellar Star Wars adventure.

Pirates of the Caribbean: Battle for the Sunken Treasure – Best Dark Ride

Perhaps the bigger news is that Pirates of the Caribbean: Battle for the Sunken Treasure has dethroned the Twilight Zone Tower of Terror in the Best Dark Ride category. In the 18 years of the Golden Ticket awards, Pirates of the Caribbean: Battle for the Sunken Treasure is only the 4th different winner. It seems like every year there is a battle between Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey and the Twilight Zone Tower of Terror, but this year the Shanghai Disneyland attraction has come out on top.
