Walt Disney World Railroad Closure Extended into 2021 Due to Tron Lightcycle Run Construction

According to the internal Walt Disney World refurbishment calendars, the Walt Disney World Railroad will now be closed through early 2021. The early 2021 date isn’t necessarily a reopening date, but rather the furthest out that we’re aware the calendars extend to. The last update we provided had the closure through December 2020.

As you might be aware, the railroad has been closed for over a year, closing back in early December 2018. Closing the railroad was necessary to facilitate construction of the Tron Lightcycle Run roller coaster at Magic Kingdom, including a rerouted track through a tunnel.

As a reminder, here’s what the portion of track that has been removed use to look like back before it closed.

Here’s a video of the area.

Finally, here’s a look at the concept art that shows the tunnel that the Walt Disney World Railroad will run through when it reopens sometime in 2021.

As always, keep checking back with us here at BlogMickey.com for the latest Disney Parks news and photos.
