Disney Begins to Survey Guests About Returning to Walt Disney World

Just days after a sweeping survey was sent out to Universal Orlando guests about their desire to return to the resort, Walt Disney World has begun to survey guests about their upcoming reservations and how the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic might affect them.

According to screenshots sent in by a reader, Disney has sent out a survey to guests with July arrivals, asking for their feedback on a variety of scenarios.

    Assume the Following

Each of the questions asked guests to assume the following:

    • Stay-at-home restrictions have been lifted and you are able to travel
    • No restrictions in Central Florida prevent you from traveling to the area
    • Travel providers and Central Florida attractions, including the Walt Disney World Resort, will have implemented a new set of health and safety measures (such as all employees and customers wearing face coverings, enhanced disinfecting and cleaning of facilities, limiting capacity and density of large gatherings, etc.)

These assumptions not only rely on government lifting restrictions, but for travel providers such as airlines to implement strict guidelines for travel. Also of interest is that the survey assumes guests will be wearing masks. It doesn’t ask if you’d like to wear a mask, but rather assumes that guests will be required to wear a mask. This would align with the policy in place for a phased reopening of Disney Springs.

How Committed Are You to Your Current Plans?

One of the questions asked guests how committed they are to keeping their current plans. This is a good question to gauge the “pent-up demand” that Disney CEO Bob Chapek said that the company believes exists.

What Would Make You Consider Keeping…or Cancelling Your Vacation?

The next two questions provide a long list of scenarios that might make a guest more inclined to keep or cancel their vacation. Some scenarios include travel restrictions, advanced reservations to enter the theme parks, attraction and entertainment availability, mandatory safety precautions, presence of a virus treatment, testing availability, health and federal official guidance, and job security.

What will make you keep your vacation plans?

What will make you cancel your vacation plans?

Before we close out, a couple of things are important to note. First, this is just a survey. It doesn’t suggest that certain measures will be put in place when the theme parks reopen, but it is meant to get a feel for what Disney guests with existing reservations are currently thinking. Second, this survey may have been sent out to other guests with reservations outside of July. We were sent this survey for a reservation made in late June and into July, but the presence of a July date in the questions doesn’t necessarily mean that July is when Disney will reopen the parks.

    1. Is Disney parks such as Disneyland in California ever going to go back to the old normalcy again?

    2. I wouldn’t want to walk around Disney in a mask, especially since any of the masks available to the public are not N95 and not effective for medical use, including filtering a virus. Either it’s safe to open or it’s not – masks should not be part of the deal.

    3. That’s when we rebooked for too! After 2 months of staying at home we are more than ready to Disney. We are watching for any word and hoping they open. The kids need it and us adults too!

    4. Will not go to Disney World if I’m required to wear a mask. Not only would it make a super expensive vacation less enjoyable, In that heat and humidity, I’ll pass out! I understand the need for safety but if thats the new rule going forward, I’m out!

    5. We have reservations at Vero Beach Resort on June 1-3, then to WDW resorts from June 3rd -9th. So far I have been able to do online check in for both resorts we’re staying at. If we get canceled, I will let you know.

    6. I have two upcoming trips with family to stay at Disney resort’s and would come

    7. I have a vacation set for mid July I hope it opens back up and not having to wear mask also let’s get back to normal

    8. At some point people need to realize how overblown and over exaggerated all of this is…..open the parks like normal and let people decide if they want to come or not. And those that are scared can stay home and those that realize this is an overreaction can actually live their lives and do what they want. I hope that Disney gets with it. Requiring masks would be ridiculous- but then again so is all of this so who knows what will happen- but really, enough already

    9. We don’t have plans for Disney World till November of 2021… im hoping for a bit of normalcy by then. I don’t want to have to wear masks all day for 10 days.

    10. Had to cancel May plans for our anniversary supposed to do the Disney 4 parks, want to try again the end of July. Feel should only open up to Florida residents at first, then US only. Then the rest of the world.

    11. Disney has to realize that guests are not going to wear masks full time (it’s literally not possible), the social distancing is going to be a joke to try and enforce, and who in their right minds will shell out the thousands it costs for a vacation there to have restrictions on what they can and cannot do, and possibly when you can access the parks? Social distancing (which is a farce in itself, factually) would limit rides, que’s, restaurants, shopping… everything. Fireworks? Yeah.. how’s that going to work? Then you have limited capacity… not going to work. People want to keep comparing WDW to China… it’s a pointless argument. If they restrict anything, the majority of vacations will cancel and annual passholders will cancel. Living in Central Florida and knowing many, many AP’s every single one said temperature checks, face masks, limited entry, virtual que’s, social distancing or having to make special reservations to visit would make them outright demand their passes be refunded. The parks, just like everything else, need to open as normal and let people decide if they’re willing to go or not. Those arguing in favor of masks and the like are nothing more than the vocal majority… in reality, the actual majority want nothing to do with that. If Disney sides with the emotionally driven fear, they will fail.

    12. Open up. Let’s enjoy life again. There has always been germs
That’s how we build our immune systems. As far as anyone not wanting to go they don’t have to. But believe me when I say that there are plenty of people who will go, they’re ready. Never has a virus been so overblown.

    13. Open everything to florida residence most of florida has low cases of the virus this would be a great way to start.

    14. If there is a mask requirement, I know I will not be going. With asthma, it is hard to breath with one on in 50 degree weather let alone 80-90 heat. 6 feet separation compared to 3.3 feet in China is going to make it more difficult for WDW to social distance and lines will be sprawling all over the place.

    15. Cast members will need masks and temp checks but guests will accept temperature checks, not masks. No fingertip scan at turnstiles. Disney really needs to expand electronic queuing to full fast pass everywhere. Obviously some rules would need to change but the technology exists and we can’t have guests standing forever in lines in which social distancing can’t be enforced. Cutting excessive lines will add a lot to the appeal and advertising so much that it could offset other virus concerns. It could be a silver lining worth keeping. Also need a way to disinfect rides. Live entertainment shows…. Ouch.

    16. I think they should open everything and let the public decide on wearing masks or not. Also I cannot believe that for people who have recently been impacted by cancellations can no longer get the recovery free dining plan. That is soooo unfair and soooo unDisney-like. They should give it to anyone who is impacted or going to be impacted. What do you tell your kids or grandkids who know that they were supposed to go to WDW that now you can’t go because it’s going to be a lot more expensive. You’re going to have a lot of heartbroken children.

    17. Seriously? For the large MAJORITY of people- this is a non event. Unless you count the fact that we chose to put 31+million people out of work because a virus impacts people over the age of 70. No different than any other flu season. This whole farce was based scientific data- of which the average age of death due to the virus(flu) is 79…..Any guess what the normal life expectancy is….79….except now we have 31+ million out of work…..so yeah over exaggerated – time to get up off the couch, get back to work , and get back to normal….which means no masks, no distancing, no temperature checks…..and if you don’t like it, then don’t show up…..very simple concept….and I’m guessing very quickly you’d change your mind….hopefully Disney adds Sweden to EPCOT – they had it right all along

    18. We have been scheduled for WDW July 12-18th since January 2nd. It’s my FIL’s 50th birthday. We paid around $8,000 for the 4 of us when everything is said and done. This whole thing is insane. If we can get the same Disney experience and fireworks and eating with our planned reservations and get on all the rides and shows and such WITHOUT masks in the 100 degree weather… Then we will still be going if they are open. We realize there will be changed but it still NEEDS TO HAVE the same pixie dust experience all in all that we PAID IN FULL FOR!!! and now that they dropped the free dinning recovery offer if we have to change to October or something really PISSES ME THE F OFF!!!!! not to mention we paid $650 per couple for our flights that are now $140 per couple! We could have first class now. It’s sickening to the stomach! Social distance, wash your hands, don’t go if your old or immune compromised. Come on now. It’s not hard.

    19. All of those that are complaining , whining having hissy fits like little children about wearing masks in the parks, the Disney CEO Bob Chapek said today that they will be required for all cast members and guests, so PLEASE don’t have a public meltdown and ruin the times of people (including children) abiding by the rules put forward by Disney. Behavior like that isn’t fair ( nor is it magical ) to other guests and most certainly the cast members that will receive more than an earful from many “adults”.
