New Permits Filed for Electric Umbrella and MouseGear Replacements at EPCOT

A new permit was filed today with the state of Florida that targets the Innoventions East part of EPCOT that is currently a construction zone. The permit, which was filed by popular Disney World contractor Whiting-Turner, lists the work as part of “Project G” (for Gamma), with a concentration on “foundations for misc. AD elements”.

Whiting-Turner has done a lot of construction projects lately for Disney World, including work on Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge and the upcoming TRON Lightcycle Run attraction.

While visiting EPCOT recently, we noticed crews working on what was left of the MouseGear skeleton.

As we mentioned earlier, the work here encompasses both the MouseGear renovation and the Electric Umbrella replacement. You can see concept art of both of those respectively below.

This work is just a small piece of the overall EPCOT overhaul project. At this point, it’s too early to tell which, if any, pieces seen in the concept art below will not come to fruition given the financial impact of COVID-19 on The Walt Disney Company.
