Disney CEO: We Expect to Remove Theme Park Mask Mandate, Social Distancing in 2022

In today’s investor call, Disney CEO Bob Chapek was asked about what Disney expects in terms of face masks and social distancing in their theme parks in the immediate future. Here’s what Chapek said:

Yeah, I won’t specifically comment on whether we anticipate getting to 2019 revenues by 2022. But I will tell you what our expectations are in terms of the state of the world by then.

We have no doubt, and when we reopen up in parks that were closed, or increase the capacity, that we’ll have some level of social distancing and mask-wearing for the remainder of this year. That’s our expectation. But, I believe that Dr. Fauci said earlier today that he hopes that there is vaccines for everyone who wants them by April this year. If that happens, that is a game-changer.

And that could accelerate our expectations, and give people the confidence that they need to come back to the parks. Will there be overlap until we know that we have herd immunity? Sure there will. But do we believe we’ll be in the same state of 6 foot social distance and mask wearing in 22? Absolutely not.
    Bob Chapek, Disney CEO

As a reminder, Walt Disney World still has a mask mandate in place for all guests and Cast Members in their theme parks and resorts. Disney even said that guests who have received the COVID-19 vaccine will still be required to wear masks.

    1. The problem is the disconnect between having vaccines available for all and getting everyone to take them. There are still millions of hoaxers and antivaxers and 45ers who will refuse vaccination, for a variety of cockamamie reasons. And we all know the demographics where “a Florida man” lives.

    2. Hi, Florida man here. I’m one of those people that Mike laments about above. I personally don’t believe there is actually a “pandemic”. I think it’s yet another manufactured crisis like climate change. Politicians need a crisis to implement their political agenda. In the false panic, they can push their agenda on the public. Do you really think the whole vote-by-mail nonsense could have been enacted without a crisis to point to? And with it, they got their preferred candidate elected. Mail in ballots gave them a huge opportunity for mischief. And they used it.

With Disney’s announcements about masks being required until next year, I find myself realizing that I won’t be attending the parks until then too.

      Is not the same as
“We Expect to Remove Theme Park Mask Mandate, Social Distancing in 2022”

Cheapskate said they do not expect to be in the same place in 2022. This means that it COULD be 2021 where it goes away. He did not say either way. Kind of an erroneous headline
