Disney Says Purchase Price of Global Dream Cruise Ship Was Immaterial, Reported To Be Just $41 Million

In a filing with the SEC, Disney acknowledged the purchase of the partially-built Global Dream cruise ship as previously announced. The price of the ship, which is reported to have been about $41 million, was not disclosed in the filing. In fact, the price was so low that Disney said that they purchased it “for an amount that is not material”:

In November 2022, the Company purchased a partially completed ship for an amount that is not material. The ship will be approximately 200,000 tons. Disney Cruise Line will incur the cost to complete construction with total costs anticipated to be less than our recent fleet additions. This ship is expected to be delivered in 2025.

Disney also anticipates that the cost to complete construction will be less than recent fleet additions such as the Disney Wish. It is expected that Disney will spend just under $1 billion to finish construction of the ship.
