Ahead of a full scale removal, Disney World has removed the first couple of pieces of 50th Anniversary decorations from the walls of Cinderella Castle. The 50th Anniversary medallion was removed earlier this month, but Disney has been working on draining the moat around Cinderella Castle to allow for high-reach cranes to support the decor removal. The moat is now mostly drained but will require some cleaning before the machinery can enter for the proper removal of the decorations.
While visiting Magic Kingdom today, we noticed that Disney has already removed some of the decorations from the walls of Cinderella Castle. The removal didn’t require high-reach machinery in the moat, so it was able to take place overnight. Here’s a before and after of the removal of the drape decorations at the very back of Cinderella Castle.
Here’s a closer look at the removal, which, to Disney’s absolute credit, resulted in basically no visible damage to the walls of Cinderella Castle.
The same decor piece has been removed from the back of the east side of Cinderella Castle as well, again, with little to no visible damage to Cinderella Castle.
The decorations were secured to Cinderella Castle via multiple anchor points, but actual contact with the Castle was minimized as seen in our photos below of the remaining decor.
The work will likely take a few weeks and should start properly either in the coming days or next week.
The first piece of 50th Anniversary decorations was installed on March 11, 2021.
