Disney Will Not Follow Universal Into Regional Theme Parks Business

In the JP Morgan Global Technology, Media & Communications Conference this morning, Disney Parks Chairman Josh D’Amaro was asked about the concept of smaller, regional theme parks. Universal has announced that it will introduce a regional theme park in Texas, and when D’Amaro was asked if Disney would entertain the thought of regional parks, he shut it down.

D’Amaro said that Disney has plenty of room to expand its current theme parks and that it will continue to focus on its core business:

For us, we think that focusing on our core assets is where we should be spending most of our opportunity, and as I said earlier, we think that there is so much potential there that’s where we’re continuing to focus our efforts
